EPP DIARY: What’s Happening in 2021?

Can’t believe it’s already been a month since we last talked about my English Paper Piecing projects. I did get a lot of hockey time which equals piecing time! Although our county shut down, a couple counties away, the rinks were opened so we were able to do two weeks of hockey camp. Thank goodness!

Block 43: Garden Path using Alison Glass Low Volume Sunprints

Last time I showed you Block 44 which I finished out of sequence. I confess I did this block before 43 because I wanted to feel accomplished. Block 43 has A LOT of pieces. I have made a lot of progress but still only half way. This is another “white” block. I thought I was being clever when I used different prints to be able to see the design. I have to laugh. The one that is showing white is supposed to have these cute gold prints on it. But it is so scattered that I did not get any of them on my pieces. Oh well. It still looks great.

This is the last one I have cut and glued so it is time to pull out the book to do a few more blocks before I actually finish this one.

Block 14 Complete! using Kaffee Fassett fabrics

I haven’t decided if I like this block just by itself but it looks fine when they are laid out (cover picture). I am always amazed at how fast these blocks go together. I am glad I get to work on something easier to piece than the Farmer Wife blocks. Those one inch triangles are a pain in my bum. With the completion of this block, that only leaves 10 more. The sew-a-long ended in December. If hockey ever gets going again, I might be done in June otherwise maybe December. LOL!

I have the next two cut and glued ready to go! I even was able to piece the triangles on the first round of one inch hexies.

Ruby’s Double Diamond Quilt

I lost count of what number this block is. But it’s good to have another one done! I am using Lori Hold fabrics for the blocks and a random fabric for the pathway.

Talk about a fast block, this double diamond pattern is quick and fun. I have developed a nice way of putting these together by piecing together six different “units”. Using this method, I was able to piece together the core of the next block already.

Christmas Ornaments

My first finished ornaments using mini charm squares.

I had every intention of finishing the whole package of “ornaments” which according to paperpieced.com makes only 12 ornaments – 2 of each.

Then I saw someone post making their ornaments with wool / felt backing and hand stitched. Taking the paper out of these tiny ornaments is a pain in my … bum. I pieced together a total of 8 but only got to the final finish on the two above. I have every intention of finishing the other 6 I pieced but no more this year.

New Hexagon Projects

“May” Spring coordinating items – placemats (top), mug rugs (left), and potholders (right)

I recently added these three projects to my Quarter 1 Finish-A-Long list. Although the placemats are not EPP, they do go with the others. This month I plan on finishing the mug rugs with felt/wool packing like the ornaments were finished. I intend on appliquing the EPP hexagons onto an 8 inch square and finishing into potholders.

Wrap Up

Nala working on the layout of the Lost and Found quilt blocks
Nala and Simba letting me know I forgot three blocks in the layout.

I am considering making another project, but I think I need to finish the Lost and Found quilt before starting another. I have two projects in my stash, but I saw another one that I fell in love with that I will probably end up starting (after of course ordering it).

Meanwhile, I will continue making additional “mug rugs” and “potholders” out of my New Hexagon books.

Stay safe and dry everyone!

Peggy
