EPP DIARY: Ongoing Stitchy Projects for February

Still slowly making progress on all of my active projects. See below for updates. I am considering jumping in on the Millie Morsels Sew-A-Long which is a new project based on the Katja Marek’s book New Hexagon 2.

Block 43: Garden Path using Alison Glass Low Volume Sunprints

Wow! This block has a lot of tiny pieces. I am finally down to the last corner to piece. We have a hockey camp coming up President’s Day Weekend so I will get plenty of time to work on it as well as some travel time.

Since I am almost done with this block, I pulled the fabric for the next two blocks which will be fun. One is orange & white and the other is white & yellow. I will need to get blocks 45 & 46 cut and based in time for my trip.

Progress of Block 15 with Kaffee Fassett fabrics

I finished cutting and basting blocks 15 & 16. I have made some nice progress on block 15. I am already on row 2 with this one. It is getting challenging now that I’m in the later half of the sewalong with fabrics especial for the 3” and 2” hexagons.

This sewalong ended December 2020 but as usual, I am still plugging along.

Ruby’s Double Diamond Quilt

Another finished block with Lori Holt fabrics. This time aqua, white, and brown (Block 12)

I am really loving the diamond pattern probably even more than the standard flower hexie. It is so elegant. I am always amazed how quickly this block come come together. And the best thing, NO tails!

The start of another block. This time with Lori Holt and Liberty fabrics. (Block 13)

New Hexagon Projects

Completed mug rugs with felt backings and using Walkabout fabrics

These two blocks are from Katja first book – New Hexagon. My plan is to use the patterns in different small projects over the next few years. Here I turned them into mug rugs to go along with my table runner and placemats! In the background is the last two matching placemats and their binding I hope to finish this week.

I was going to hand stitch to the felt but decided to give machine stitching a whirl. I like it. I started to add more stitching but because I am using felt instead of wool, I stopped. It just isn’t handling that much stitching well.

I still have my other two hexagon blocks with same fabric line which will be appliqued onto a background for potholders. My hold up has been deciding the background. Since they will be in the kitchen, I don’t think white is appropriate even if it goes well. Hopefully next time we chat, I will have jumped one way or the other.

Wrap Up

I have started collecting quite a few future projects over the past few years. So either I need to stitch faster (LOL!) or more often. Currently English Paper Piecing is my goto for travel and hockey. Since I haven’t been doing much of either, these projects just keep dragging on.

Although I have enjoyed doing the smaller projects and practicing different finishing techniques. Advice is welcome.
