Cross Stitch Diary: January 2022

Welcome back friends! I have been catching all of you up on my quilting projects. I wanted to spend a little time on my cross stitch projects. So let’s get started!

2021 Results

I started the year with 14 projects in process, 36 new starts, and 35 finishes. So I ended the year with one more WIP to make it 15. It felt good to finish five projects in December alone including Autumn Spice, July Calendar Crate, October Sampler of the Month, Pine Needle Calendar, and September Truckin Along. I finished an average 3 projects per month during 2021.

Monthly series

During 2020-2021 I was able to work on 6 different series but didn’t finish any of them:

  1. Truckin Along by Stitching with the Housewives. Completed 6 out of 12. Started in 2020.
  2. Calendar Gnomes by Charlie’s Needles. Completed 4 out of 12. Started in 2021.
  3. Sampler of the Month by Country Cottage Needleworks. Completed 7 out of 12. Started in 2021.
  4. Snapshot by Pine Needles designed by Sandra Workman. Completed 5 out of 12. Started in 2021.
  5. Cottage of the Month by Country Cottage Needleworks. Completed 7 out of 12. Started in 2021.
  6. Calendar Crates by Stitching with the Housewives. Completed 1 out of 12. Started in 2021.

Multi-pattern samplers

I have three samplers that I started either in 2020 or 2021.

  1. Prim Stitch Series by Lori Holt. Out of 12 patterns, completed 5 patterns. Started in 2020.
  2. Snow Village by Country Cottage Needleworks. Out of 11 patterns, completed 3 patterns. Started in 2020.
  3. Fruit of Plenty by Modern Folk Embrodiery. Out of 12 patterns, completed none, partially completed 3 patterns. Started in 2021.

January 2022 Projects

January recap

In January, I started 6 new projects and finished four. I worked on a total of 15 different projects. I just wanted to share with you. Next month we will catch up on February.

Janaury wip finishes

September Snapshot by Pine Needles

This year due to Covid, these monthly shipments were delayed up to three months which doesn’t do much to motivate you to work on current projects. This project was started beginning of September before finally finish stitching in January.

Mr November a Calendar Gnome by Charlie’s Needles

I discovered this series when I was surfing Etsy one day. They are definitely a fun series. Mr November was started at the beginning of November and finished stitching in January. Isn’t he cute!?

January starts and finished same month

January Calendar Crates (Mini) by Stitching with the Housewives

Only my second in the series. This is the smaller of two charts. Isn’t Sweater Weather cute! Nice easy small stitch.

Janaury Barn Sweet Barn by Lori Holt design

This is a new series I started in 2022 which is a quilt block done in different color ways. For January, I picked blues. This is the center block of the new Flower Basket SAL with Lori Holt and Fat Quarter Shop.

Let’s Talk Winter (large chart) by Hands on Design

I’ve been excited about starting this fun chart with lots of words and a few well placed items. Fun Stitch!January Truckin Along by Stitching with the Housewives

January Truckin Along by Stitching with the Housewives

I was able to give this a good start. There are two charts that I am stitching together. Snowmen are a favorite of mine.

January Calendar Crates (Main) by Stitching with the Housewives

I started and worked on for two days. I used a different approach then my first one. Enjoy!

Snowballs For Sale by Lori Holt

I have been looking forward to starting this chart. Unfortunately, her charts always take a while to stitch since it is very dense coverage. I was able to get the ground at least laid out while marking where the wheelbarrow will be.

January works in progress active

Just to be clear. Often when a season or just because, I do set aside projects. So the ones below are ones that I worked on during January.

Prim Stitch by Lori Holt

I was able to complete all of pattern five border and a nice start on pattern six.

Fruit of Plenty by Modern Folk Embrodiery

With the new year upon me, I realized I needed to come up with a new approach to working on my first real sampler. I have been struggling to figure it out so I had only worked on parts that made sense to me. At the end of January, I decided I needed to finish each month’s chart as it was released. I kept messing up because I wasn’t doing a good job of transistioning from chart to chart.

I didn’t realize this until end of the month but I have made progress.

Santa Baby by Fat Quarter Shop

I made a ton of progress but I swear this is taking forever. I have almost only white stitches left with a few black accent stitches.

Snow Village by Country Cottage Needleworks

I was able to finish the top row. Since it is winter I thought I would work through February.

Shabby Winter Calendar by Cuore E Batticuore

Another coveted project that I have wanted to work on but once again fairly seasonal. Last year I had to try different cloths until I found one I could work with. I wrapped up block 5.

Christmas Calendar by Tiny Modernist

This project has stayed out because I wanted to use this one for stitching Christmas the 25th of every month. This month I finished Day 4.

Winter Camper by Bobbie G Designs

When I originally purchased this in 2020, I was excited to stitch this with snowmen. I had even originally thought I would buy the other 3 in the series. The chart has sucked to stitch with and a ton of back stitching. I really got derailed when stitching the snowmen. Now I am just “fixing” as I go which is an exhausting and demotivating. I was able to finish with all the back stitch accents for the first snowman.

Wrap Up

When I started this blog, I had every intention of going over February but soon realized with no blog since July 2021 that left a six month gap. While going over some of the series covered a lot of what I worked on, I felt I really needed to start with January this time and I will give you February update later.

I think I still need to organize how I share my progress with you. I feel pretty good about quilting but not stitchy projects. Maybe a weekly blog on cross stitch? Maybe something like Throwback Thursdays! Yea! I like that idea.

Thanks for stopping by.

Happy Stitching!
