Hi Everyone! Welcome back to Quilty Update. Happy to have got to spend some time in the sewing studio this week. While I was super optomistic in my expectations, I am happy with the results.
Just a reminder that I will be linking up with To Do Tuesday hosted by Carol at Quilt Schmilt. Link below. Come take a look or even better, join us.
Under the Needle Last Week
When I got a notification that Month 2 of Dragonfruit Block of the Month was on its way to me, I became obsessed with finishing Month 1. I pulled it off with one day to spare!
- Super happy with finishing all of Month 1’s blocks for the Dragonfruit QAL: 4 each of Lime, Papaya, Guava this week to go with the Mulberry and Apple blocks from last week. How Sweet it is! I worked on these 20 blocks almost every day for at least 30 minutes just whittling away until they were finally finished.
- I have been using my pre-cut (by me) churn dash blocks as my leaders and enders project this month. I finished one block and started on a second block.
- After finishing my EPP Project block 3-1 for Queen of Diamonds, I jumped back to starting the next block for my Farmers Wife EPP project ~ Block 48: Homeward Bound. This project is all Alison Glass fabrics from various collections. I didn’t have any gold thread handy so I used salmon. I take such tiny stitches, I don’t think you really notice it do you?
- To round off the week, I was able to finish the October Temperature Cottage for the FQS 2024 Temperature Quilt. October 31st being a blue tree. So cute!
I finished 3 of my 8 weekly goals. I am very pleased.

Afterthoughts
Happy mail came yesterday with the fabrics for Month 2 of the Dragon Fruit QAL. I will be able to assemble the corner sections after I finish this month’s blocks. They named the section “Ambrosia”. I think when they designed this quilt Fat Quarter Shop had a blast with it. It is definitely not a Kimberly quilt but I do really like what they have done. The Booklet is high quality and well done. The fabric cuts for month 1 were very generous. I don’t think I have ever participated in one of their QALs before. Generally they are all about pastels or florals which are not my jam. My Churn Dash quilt is one of my few floral quilt. I have no idea what possessed me to buy the fat quarter bundle. Had to have been the pretty colors. I definitely will not be keeping the quilt. It is not a reflection of who I am. It is more of an exercise for me in using up my stash with a block that I love.
I am expecting a box from Alison Glass tomorrow and it is a bit of a mystery of what will actually be in it. I signed up to receive 4 boxes this year with 2 1/2 squares from all of her collections from the beginning. I have no idea right now what I will do with them, but I am excited to get it. I need to research 🧐 quilt patterns for mini-charms.
That’s it for this week. Thanks for stopping by! Please feel free to leave comments below.

I don’t know why you have an iron when you have Nala to carefully press your blocks. 😉 Your Dragonfruit blocks are very attractive. Hope you are having a wonderful week!
