Hello from Seattle! I meet the German In-Laws. As expected everyone was very nice. They have a packed schedule trying to squeeze in as much as possible in their trip. I gave them the potholders that I finished hours before boarding the train on Friday (😂). They seemed to be a hit. I got German chocolate in return from their hometown. I haven’t tried it yet, but I do love chocolate.
The plan is to linkup with Carol over at Quilt Schmilt this week.
Please take a moment and check out what everyone else is working on. I always find inspiration when looking at all the projects.
Under the Needle Last Week
I spent most of the week working on making these potholders. I recut these guys twice. My original cut was way too big and not enough pieces. I was working on this block from my head not a pattern. Finally got everything like I wanted and was happy with my test block.
I worked diligently on these to finish in time for my trip. I ended up deciding on a simple outline quilting and was pleased with the overall result. Wasn’t my best job, but it still looked good. The family was happy with their gift. I felt otters were a great representation of Western US.
I worked on this english paper piecing project earlier in the week. I was down to one more seam to sew. After finishing the potholders, I had a couple of hours before heading to the train station so I pulled out this block to sew that final seam. I do not really like the color showing on this photo. That is a light pink on the outside of the stripes. Lighting is terrible at my house, but we have a finished project!
I finished up sewing the last of these four blocks with these fabrics while working on the potholders. This is my leaders and enders project that is a Pat Sloan Four Patch quilt block a day challenge from 2023. I am using Tula Pink’s Daydreamer collection with some solids and a Tula Pink True Colors purple dot fabric.
When I ran out of these leaders and enders blocks, I was too focused to pull out more precut blocks so I pulled from my original Leaders & Enders project the Irish Chain twosies. This stack is always sitting next to my sewing machine.

Afterthoughts
I brought some english paper piecing for the train and some binding that I decided I could do by hand for my Gnome series. I tried cross stitching on the way to Seattle on the train and have decided that it is too hard to read the pattern while the scenery is going by in my peripheral vision. ( i.e. I get motion sick). I have saved my handwork for the ride back today. Hopefully it will all get done.
After I get home, I have to pull together and organize everything I will be working on for my next Quilt Zoom day which is Friday. I will take a look at my monthly goals to see what I want to work on next.
Today was Graduation Day for my online course ~ Immersion 2024. I still have some homework to do, but I feel great finishing it. Next up is practicing what I learned. It is a lot like quilting. You need to do a little everyday and keep at it so your skill set grows as well as finding a community to share and encourage each other. I love that about our quilting community. The best cheerleaders ever!
Meanwhile, I am waiting for happy mail from Alison Glass. I ordered her last two collections Postmark & Soliloquy. Can’t wait.
Happy quilting and good luck on all of your projects this week!

Your trip sounds so exciting! The potholders are adorable. Congratulations on finishing the immersion course – quite an accomplishment. Enjoy the rest of your week!
Getting caught up with everything. I used my favorite block and I felt the potholders really represented America. 🇺🇸 A little piece to take back to Germany 🇩🇪 and Oxford England 🇬🇧
